Sharp Automotive Partners with Community Blood Bank to Host Summer Blood Drive | Local News

KXLG – Watertown, SD In collaboration with the Community Blood Bank, Sharp Automotive is hosting a summer blood drive on Thursday, August 29th, to address the critical need for blood donations during this time of year. The drive will take place at Sharp Automotive, 1112 9th Ave. SW from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM.

This crucial event aims to combat the summer blood shortage, a recurring issue due to increased travel, outdoor activities leading to potential accidents, and vacations impacting regular donation schedules. The collected blood will directly benefit patients in the local area, potentially saving countless lives.

“Summer is a challenging time for maintaining adequate blood supplies,” explains Ken Versteeg, Community Blood Bank Executive Director. “With a rise in trauma cases due to summer activities and vacations impacting donor availability, blood reserves can be depleted rapidly. Donating blood takes only 30 minutes, allowing you to potentially provide life-saving support to three local patients. By participating in the blood drive at Sharp Automotive on August 29th, you can help us avoid a summer shortage and be prepared for those unexpected emergencies.”

Eligibility and Incentives for Donors:

  • Minimum age of 17 (or 16 with a signed parental consent form).
  • Minimum weight of 110 lbs.
  • Good general health on the day of donation.

As a token of appreciation for their time and life-saving contribution, all blood donors will receive a $15 Hy-Vee gift card and a special blood donor t-shirt.
