Muzik’s Auto Care has served Lorain community over 8 decades

Muzik’s Auto Care, 704 W. Erie Ave. in Lorain, has provided reliable automotive service to the local community for 83 years.

The auto repair shop started in 1942, said John Muzik, the third-generation owner.

A typical day for Muzik starts with taking his son to school, then arriving at the auto repair shop at 7 a.m.

Muzik handles paperwork from 7- 8 a.m.

The three employees arrive to start work at 8 a.m.

The small projects are handled first, such as oil changes, exhaust systems and brake jobs.

“There isn’t a slow season because we are busy all year-round,” Muzik said.

“Things are non stop,” Muzik said.

“We have a very loyal customer base.”

Muzik feels that the greatest strength of his business is honesty and that he is fortunate to have a dedicated staff of employees with no turnover.

“Chris Smith has been here 14 years, and Jimmy Paiva has been here for nine years,” Muzik said. “They know the cars; and there is no guesswork involved.”

Muzik’s Auto Care handles basic maintenance such as brake jobs, oil changes, replacing batteries, alternators and wheel bearings, which make up most of the service orders.

The shop does not do engine repair or body work.

Much has changed over the years in the automotive repair business, according to Muzik.

“The service intervals have gotten longer,” he said. “Conventional oil has become a thing of the past with the newer synthetic oil, resulting in almost a once-a-year oil change.

“We just serviced a car earlier this week that has 353,000 miles. This is achievable through regular maintenance.

“Our shop has to change with the times. We added a new tire alignment machine a few years ago. We are getting more hybrid cars in, not electric cars, at least not yet, because the electric car market is so small.”

Muzik’s Auto Care’s longevity in the Lorain Community for 83 years has the business participating in city baseball leagues and Lorain Sports Hall of Fame.

“We also help the Lions Club, golf outings and we donate to charities where we can,” he said. “There is no such thing as a day where I would dread going to work.

“I’m thankful every day for the three generations of my family. A shop is as good as its employees, and my employees are like family to me.

“Our customers are all good people.”

Muzik’s Auto Care is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and closed Saturdays and Sundays.
