Georgia Street Rod Association’s third annual National Collector Car Appreciation Day event will be presented in Bartow July 12. Nearly 110 vehicles — including hot rods, classic automobiles, and muscle cars and trucks — are registered for the cruise.
“The event is to celebrate the collector car hobby, so it is important to expose as many people as possible to the classic and modern-day collector cars,” said David Riser, GSRA’s vice president and organizer of the upcoming car cruise. “It is also a rare opportunity to see a sheriff’s office-escorted parade of over 100 classic/collector cars through the rural roads of Bartow County and the historic downtown areas.
“It is also an opportunity to view the cars up close and to meet and talk with the owners at the Savoy, as well as to help support the Sheriffs’ Office Youth Homes, which is an extremely worthy cause.”
Riser provided estimated route times for those interested in checking out the vehicles as they proceed to the Savoy museum. He anticipates the cruise will ride through Euharlee at 10:45 a.m., Kingston at 11 a.m., Adairsville at 11:15 a.m. and Cartersville at 11:45 a.m.
“The overall route will not be published; however, the parade of cars will be traveling through downtown Euharlee, Kingston, downtown Adairsville and downtown Cartersville on our way to the Savoy museum,” Riser said. “They can view the parade of vehicles as they travel by Bartow Sheriff’s Office escort through Euharlee, Kingston, Adairsville and Cartersville, as well as while they are on display at the Savoy museum.
“We will be leaving the Ridz by the River property [60 Etowah Springs Road] at approximately 10:30 a.m. July 12 and arriving at the Savoy museum at approximately noon. The cars will be on display at the Savoy pavilion from noon until 3 p.m.”
As Riser noted, area residents can take a closer look at the vehicles at their final destination — Savoy Automobile Museum, 3 Savoy Lane in Cartersville.
According to the event’s promotional flyer, “The closing ceremonies will be held in the Savoy theater, and will include raffles, door prizes, and a few surprises. Spectators are encouraged, and we plan on having additional spectator activities ongoing outside during the event at the Savoy.”
The flyer also shared the cruise’s grand marshal will be Sam Mahdavi and the event will be filmed for his “Sam’s Garage” TV show.
Proceeds from the event will go toward Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes.

“There are five Youth Home campuses across the state in which residents live in a structured, loving environment. The children attend public school and are offered spiritual and moral teachings. … Georgia Sheriffs’ Youth Homes has also created Camp Pioneer, a unique outdoor program on the Pineland Campus in LaGrange. The summer camp is offered to children who would not otherwise have the opportunity to enjoy an outdoor, recreational experience.”
