A legacy of automotive excellence and community spirit in Cloverdale

Gloria, David & Kevin bring old-school craftsmanship and modern expertise to this local auto shop.

Gloria Munro and David Segarich share a deep-rooted passion for the automotive industry. As siblings, their journey began long before they stepped into the business themselves. It traces back to the 1970s when their father opened B.C.’s first Minit-Tune franchise, instilling in them a lifelong connection to the world of cars and customer service.

David, demonstrating a remarkable knack for mechanics, earned his tune-up certification before he could even legally drive. His attention to detail was so precise that licensed mechanics eventually refused to road-test his work – because it was always perfect.

Gloria’s path took a different route. Initially handling bookkeeping and marketing, she found herself running a shop in Brentwood at just 21 years old. After earning her CPA in the mid-’90s, Gloria went on to spend years in accounting, operating her own accounting firm. In 2019, she returned to her first love –automotive – when David suggested buying a Big O Tires.

Without hesitation, she jumped at the chance. “I always loved automotive and I thought it would be fun,” she says. The duo first opened in Langley before moving to Cloverdale in 2019, where they quickly became a welcome part of the community.

Old-school service, modern expertise

At Big O Cloverdale, customers can expect honest, top-notch service with a personal touch. Mechanics David and Kevin have built a reputation for “old-style mechanics,” combining classic expertise with modern techniques. Customers repeatedly praise their commitment to saving money while providing high-quality repairs. As one customer put it, “They actually try to get you on your way with the best solution, not just the most expensive one.”

David, known for his work on classic cars and automotive electrical systems, has become a go-to expert for vintage car restorations. The shop sees so many Mustangs that a customer once joked, “do you only work on Mustangs?”

Kevin, meanwhile, specializes in suspension, wheel alignments and custom exhaust work – an intricate craft that requires both skill and an attention to detail.

Beyond expert service and a welcoming atmosphere, the shop boasts unique touches. Gloria, an avid miniature hobbyist, built a scaled-down replica of the shop, now displayed in the office. A local artist also created a rendering of the shop, inspiring free colouring pages and crayons for visiting kids.
