You truly never know what you’ll stumble upon when trawling the thousands of cars within the Classic Driver Market. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, a one-of-one Pontiac Firebird, a rare-shaded Aston Martin and perhaps the craziest Lamborghini appear all at once!
A Rarity in Red
With cars from the early 2000s receiving a healthy dose of appreciation and praise as they approach their 25th birthday, it’s easy to see why they have become the hottest commodity in the classic car world. Their bodywork was softer and their technology scarce, but their road presence remains as prominent as ever, and few do it better than the Aston Martin Vanquish.
Sure, we, like many others, would likely opt for the full Pierce Brosnan-spec in Tungsten Silver, but this example finished in a vibrant red gives the early noughties grand tourer an entirely new persona. One of a mere 2,500 units ever built, this example was delivered new in October 2002 to H.H. Prince Al-Thani, where its striking paintjob was paired with a red and beige leather interior. Rarer still, this example was optioned with the 2+2 variant, adding two extra passengers to travel in complete comfort. The prince used the car, albeit rarely, until 2015, before parting with it after a mere 3,000 kilometres. Having passed between various careful owners in the years since, it now displays only 9,950 kilometres. As unusual future classics go, this Vanquish is the ideal candidate for any Aston lover’s collection and is heading to Aguttes on Wheels’ upcoming auction!

Turbocharged Dominance
If you find yourself in the market for one of Porsche’s greatest racing cars, you’re in luck. The 935 is a true legend, not just in Porsche’s vast sporting legacy, but in the entire history of endurance racing. Developed at the height of the Group 5 era, the 935 was Porsche’s ultimate expression of turbocharged dominance in circuit racing. This specific example is one of the original Werks cars, constructed by Porsche Motorsport in Weissach and campaigned in period with the Team G. LOOS.
Boasting a very well-documented competition history, this 935 has rocketed down the Mulsanne straight four times from 1979 through to 1982, in addition to competing in the Daytona 24 hour, Sebring 12 hour and many more. On top of the incredible array of circuits this example has experienced, it has been driven by some of the sport’s greatest names, including Jacky Ickx, Claude Haldi, John Fitzpatrick, Klaus Ludwig, Derek Bell, and Hervé Poulain to name just a few!

The Cyberpunk Pontiac
What you’re looking at here isn’t just a one-of-one machine, but a brand’s vision of what the future of motoring would look like for the motorists of 1970s America. Taking the Pontiac Firebird as a worthy base car, this one-of-a-kind prototype was developed by Harry Bradley, GM’s star designer at the time, and built by renowned engineer Dave Crook to create the ‘ONE’.
With styling seemingly straight from a 1980s Sci-Fi movie depicting the flying cars of the new millennium, the Pontiac ONE boasts a very low body line and an imposing rear end with closed wheel covers which blend into the elongated tailgate. Up front, the design is a particularly complex aerodynamic study, with six bonnet scoops funnelling air to the standard Firebird engine. Truly unlike anything else on the road, this ambitious vision of the future is likely set to turn heads at just about any event it rolls up to!

Golden Boy
One of only 712 fibreglass Ferrari 308s ever constructed, this 1976 model is a representation of Ferrari’s wedge silhouette that set a new stylistic direction for the marque, one that would resonate through Maranello’s offerings for decades to come. Being one of the earliest examples built, known as the ‘Vetroresina’, this fibreglass-bodied car is an absolute must for any Prancing Horse lover.
Finished in a rare and elegant factory colour pairing of Marrone Dino Metallizzato over Beige trim, this example has remained in Italy for its entire existence, staying with its original owner for a staggering 45 years. As golden-era Ferraris continue to reach new heights in terms of values and desirability, this golden-hued icon is surely one to keep an eye out for during RM Sotheby’s upcoming sale in Munich.

Fresh from the Future
We’d like to think we’ve showcased some truly unique vehicles over the decades, but there will always be those that blow our minds upon first glance. The 1998 Lamborghini Pregunta concept is just that, representing both the final flourish of the marque’s pre-Audi era and one of the most radical concept cars of the 1990s. Futuristic in its proportions and engineering yet deeply evocative of Lamborghini’s wild spirit, the Pregunta previewed the design and technology that would shape the supercars of the new millennium.
Based on the Lamborghini Diablo, the Pregunta’s bodywork and interior were entrusted to French coachbuilder Carrosserie Heuliez-Torino. Styling was headed by Heuliez director Marc Deschamps, who was previously Bertone’s Director of Style and the successor to Marcello Gandini. Deschamps, whose resume includes the Renault R5 Turbo, Lamborghini Jalpa, and Citroën GS Camargue, successfully pushed the boundaries of both form and function. Constructed entirely of carbon fibre, the Pregunta was finished in Matt Dark Grey paint borrowed from the Dassault Rafale fighter jet, adding to the drama and insanity of this unique creation! Fresh to market after over a decade, this is an exclusive opportunity to acquire a unique piece of Lamborghini history, one that bridged the marque’s independent past with the modern supercar renaissance it has helped to cultivate. Watch as this incredible car heads to Broad Arrow Auctions’ upcoming sale on October 10.
